Prime Seating — Elevate Your Home

Choosing Seating for a Shul, Hall or Event Space

Chairs for a shul, a simcha hall or a restaurant work much harder than chairs at home. Hundreds of people sit on them every week, they get moved for every event, and they need to look just as good at the next chasuna as they did on the first day.

And they usually come out of a tight budget. Most committees aren't looking for the flimsiest chair or the fanciest one; they want something that looks dignified, holds up for years, and doesn't cost what the big showrooms charge. That's the same idea Prime Seating was built on: a lean operation without big-store overhead, so a good-looking, sturdy chair comes at a fair price.

If you're on the committee or running the space, here is what's worth thinking about before you order.

1. Start with how the room is used

Every space is different. Before looking at styles, write down how the room actually works:

These answers decide almost everything else: the frame, the fabric, and whether stacking matters.

2. Durability comes first

In a busy room, a chair is pulled out, pushed in, leaned back on and dragged across the floor many times a day. Look for a sturdy frame, solid joints and legs that stay tight with heavy use. Ask about the weight the chair is made for, and sit in it yourself: a chair that feels shaky in the showroom won't get better in a hall.

Floor protection matters too. Glides on the legs save both the chairs and the floor, especially where chairs get moved often.

3. Stacking and storage

For a hall or a room that changes layouts, ask how the chairs store. Stacking chairs or lighter frames make setup and cleanup much faster and need less storage space. For a dining room or a beis medrash where chairs stay in place, you can choose a heavier, more comfortable upholstered chair instead.

Measure your storage room and doorways before you decide. It's the detail that is easiest to forget.

4. Fabrics that clean easily

Spills happen at every simcha. Choose upholstery you can clean quickly:

Velvet and bouclé look beautiful in a dining room or a lobby where use is gentler. For the busiest rooms, easy-care materials will keep the room looking fresh with less work.

5. One matching look

A room full of matching chairs looks calm and well cared for. When you order, choose the fabric, color and leg finish together, and plan for the future: if you may add more chairs later, keep a note of the exact style and finish so new chairs match the old ones.

Ordering all the chairs you need at once is the simplest way to keep every chair the same color and finish.

6. Ordering in bulk

For large orders we work directly with shuls, halls, restaurants, schools and institutions, from one style in a large quantity to a chair customized with your choice of fabric, color and leg finish. To get a quote, it helps to send us:

Because we keep our own overhead low, we can quote a fair price for your quantity instead of a showroom price multiplied by a few hundred chairs. We'll come back with options that fit, with pricing for your quantity, and you'll have one person to deal with from the first question until the chairs arrive at your building. Committee members are welcome to come sit in the chairs and feel the fabrics at our Brooklyn showroom before deciding.
